Telus

USW Local 1944 is aware of Telus’ abuse of compulsory overtime language under the Collective Agreement. In response, we are filing a policy grievance against the practice of forcing compulsory overtime when members already have scheduled vacations. We are also supporting the filing of grievances where the scheduling of compulsory overtime violates other provisions of the Canada Labour Code.

Once again this year, the Alberta Federation of Labour (AFL), in partnership with the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC), will be hosting students from across Alberta at their Winter School at Jasper Park Lodge from January 9-13, 2023. USW Local 1944 calls for members to submit applications to attend, from which only a few will be selected.

Several exciting topics will be discussed, such as Collective Bargaining, Conflict Management, Labour History, Standing in Solidarity with Indigenous Peoples and more.

As you know, we filed for conciliation on October 21st. Mediator Kathy Peters of the Federal Conciliation Mediation Service was assigned to us on November 3rd.

We have a minimum of 60 days in the conciliation process.

We met with Kathy Peters for the first time on November 15th to review outstanding proposals.

Negotiations are continuing, and we are scheduled to meet with the Company and the Conciliator.

Bargaining Update #22 - October 21, 2022

Your Bargaining Committee Files for Federal Conciliation

Yesterday, many of you received an email from Telus “Setting Healthy Boundaries”. They say that “now is a great time to start setting and reviewing your personal boundaries”. Yet Telus is bargaining directly with our members, causing unnecessary stress.

We’ve posted various materials on our Digital Union Board that promote the amazing 97% Strike Mandate you gave your Committee and other bargaining-related materials.

Telus claims that their offer is fair and free of concessions. This is simply incorrect!

We met with the Company today, and instead of bargaining with your Committee, they told us that they are putting the package that is almost identical to the one you have already rejected in front of you, for your review. Any improvements to the Collective Agreement they put to you are a direct result of your Bargaining Committee having fought for them. We believe they can do better because you deserve better!

The BC Federation of Labour holds its 60th Constitutional Convention from November 21 to 25, 2022. If you are interested in being a USW Local 1944 Delegate, please submit your application here.
Your Bargaining Committee resumed negotiations with the Company today. It is our goal to continue to meet with the company to ensure we get the best deal possible and address the priorities that matter to YOU.
