USW Local 1944 Annual Scholarships
Every year, USW Local 1944 offers 3 educational scholarships of $750 and 4 scholarships of $1,000 to children of union members graduating from high school. This scholarship program considers leadership values and labour knowledge. This is an educational opportunity for students who are making a difference in their communities. More details here.
Application deadline: August 1st, 2023
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Applicant must be a child of an active member of USW Local 1944;
- Applicant must be graduating from grade 12;
- Applicant must be registering for courses at a public post-secondary institution;
- Submit the completed application form;
- Submit an updated transcript;
- Submit a letter of reference from a teacher or an employer.
David Podworny Memorial Scholarship (USW Local 1944, Unit 60)
The David Podworny Memorial Scholarship, valued at $1,000 per year, is intended for those studying or planning to study Telecommunications Trades & Labour Studies at accredited public institutions in BC (Canada) or Washington State (USA).
Application deadline: July 31st, 2023
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be between 20 and 60 years old of age;
- Be a resident of British Columbia;
- Enrolling or enrolled in Telecommunications Trades or Labour (Labor) Studies Program at accredited public institutions in Canada or the United States.
Applicants must complete the application form and submit a letter of reference from a union representative, a mentor, or an instructor. More information on the Columbia Institute web site.
