As you know, ‘ADT by Telus’ was organized into USW Local 1944 last year, however, the USW International in Pittsburgh has now officially chartered the Local’s ‘ADT by Telus’ workers as your own official Unit of the Local, Unit 250! Unit 250 is now the 38th Unit of the Local.
While your Bargaining Committee continues to fight for the best deal we can get out of this employer, we want to state again that we fully recognize and appreciate that this has been a challenging time for all of us. As much as we would like to update you fully on what is remaining on the Table, as the items will likely change, we are being very cautious not to allow the Company to bargain directly with you and attempt to sow division amongst us, so we are being as transparent as we can.
We have met with the employer committee twice so far this year and have finally seen their wage package. As you can imagine, it was insulting and contained nothing to address the financial impacts of the past couple of years.
We have had several days of bargaining in the last month and we are happy to say that we have reached agreement with the company on almost all of the non-monetary items and have developed a framework of how the overall Collective Agreement will look once we are eventually done bargaining. Some items that are covered under non-monetary are things like a grievance procedure, health and safety language, non-discrimination and seniority recognition.
While there have not been any meetings happening at the table between the employer and your committee over the month of July, this does not mean that nothing is happening and we wanted to provide an update to you.
May 9, 2022 - The bargaining process can take a while and to help understand it, we have attached an infographic that outlines the overall process. We will send out intermittent updates to this chart thru your Unit’s communication teams as we move along the process.
April 6, 2022 - Firstly, on behalf of your newly elected Bargaining Committee, we would like to express our thanks for your support and belief in us to fight for you to get a collective agreement that respects you, your work and your families!
The Committee has been able to meet several days over Zoom to begin some bargaining training while you had the opportunity to tell us what workplace issues are really important to you via the Bargaining Survey, which was open until March 25th.
