July 19, 2021 - The United Steelworkers is conducting an election for the positions of the International Executive Board. As part of the election process your Local Union will use remote electronic voting to nominate candidates for International President, International Secretary-Treasurer, International Vice President (Administration), International Vice President (Human Affairs), Canadian National Director, International Vice President at Large, International Vice President and Directors of USW Districts 3, 5 and 6.

July 5, 2021 - Whether it’s lobbying for paid sick days, standing against racism, bargaining good contracts, or supporting a co-worker who is struggling to cope, USW members stand in solidarity with others. The Union is introducing a series of 3 online one-day workshops built around the theme of “Solidarity in Hard Times”:

June 30, 2021 - Members’ children graduating from high school and registering in any post-secondary public institution have one month left to submit their application and seize the financial opportunity of a USW Local 1944 scholarship! There are 3 scholarships of $750 and 4 scholarships of $1,000.

June 16, 2021 - On June 16, 2021, Statistics Canada reported the Consumer Price Index had increased 3.6% from May 2020 to May 2021, and as such, this has triggered the COLA clause in our Collective Agreement with Telus.

June 9, 2021 - Three new Shop Steward classes will be held in August. These August sessions will be held in English only. All our previous sets of Shop Steward classes filled up within a few hours, so don’t delay your registration and seize this opportunity for empowering yourself and your coworkers!

May 27, 2021 - On Tuesday, May 25, the Local Union officers took their positions for a three-year term. Local 1944 Executive Board members were sworn-in via Zoom videoconference. Congratulations to all Executive Board members! We have the pleasure to announce that as of May 25, 2021, the Local is no longer under Administration.
May 19, 2021 - MyUNIONPlan@Work, formerly known as the TWU-USW Employee Life and Health Plan, is looking for a USW Local 1944 member who is interested to serve as a plan trustee.

May 14, 2021 - Your Bargaining Committee continues to meet to review language, build proposals and do the work necessary prior to negotiations with Telus. We had a very successful last few days.

February 13, 2023 - Every year, USW Local 1944 offers 7 scholarships to members’ children graduating from high school and registering in any post-secondary public institution:

  • 3 educational scholarships of $750
  • 4 scholarships of $1,000
