December 2, 2021 - The Union and the Company have continued to meet and discuss each other's proposals for a total of six more days since our last update on October 28, 2021.
As we informed you, despite a few nice words, the Company tabled a huge package of concessions. Therefore, as we move into this holiday season, we thought it very important to inform you that the Company seeks to reduce compensation premiums and place restrictions on Statutory Holidays. HOWEVER, the Union believes that ALL statutory holidays, whether provincial or federal, should be recognized. Our membership has earned the right to either spend the holiday with their loved ones or use it as a time of reflection. We must be compensated fairly if we are forced to work the day and continue to have the ability to substitute religious holidays as it applies to our faith or religious observances.
In addition to lowering allotments, the Company wants to make it harder for our members to earn their vacation entitlement. Telus needs to understand this is not a race to the bottom. We deserve a work-life balance; we work to live, NOT live to work!
Further dialogue proved that the Company has shown little to no interest in ensuring job security for our membership. Instead, they are pushing their agenda to continue to contract out and off-shore your work. Indicating it will be “business as usual.” The time has come to #RiseUp and let Telus know we will not stand for the practice of getting rid of good-paying Canadian jobs while they reap billions in profits off the backs of the Canadian consumer.
The power is OURS – Together we shall #RiseUp!
