Shaw Bargaining Updates

Shaw Vancouver and Surrey Bargaining Update #3 - Wednesday, March 8, 2023

Shaw Vancouver and Surrey Bargaining Update #2 - Tuesday, January 24, 2023

Negotiations between USW 1944 - Unit 60 and our employer, Shaw Cable, were scheduled to begin Thursday, January 19, 2023.

This and two other scheduled dates in January were cancelled pending the outcome of the appeal at the Competition Bureau regarding the Rogers Communications takeover of Shaw.

New dates have been tentatively booked for mid-February to exchange initial proposals.

Who will be sitting across the table – Rogers or Shaw – remains to be seen.

Your current Collective Agreements are valid through to March 23, 2023 but with the impending Rogers merger, there are likely to be some changes coming to how things are run. To help prepare, your Unit Executive has prioritized the upcoming round of negotiations to help keep this a fair and respectful place to work. We know that is absolutely the right thing to do!

March 5, 2021 - Congratulations Abbotsford! We appreciate the solidarity that you have shown your bargaining committee. It is what has kept us going, and that made the difference at the bargaining table. Your bargaining team has reached a tentative agreement. We are pleased to bring it to the membership with our unanimous endorsement. We will be presenting the details of this offer and holding a ratification vote this Monday, March 8, 2021, at 4:30 pm.

March 2, 2021 - The bargaining committee is coming to Abbotsford next Monday, March 8, 2021, immediately at the end of the business day to inform you and to demonstrate to you, the members, that we are working hard for you. Your input and participation is at the forefront of this process. This process doesn’t work without you, we are your bargaining team and are your voice at the table. It is imperative that we are in lockstep as we navigate the road ahead.

January 7, 2021 - As was communicated on December 11, 2020 after the Shaw Bargaining Committee walked away from negotiations, Shaw submitted an application for conciliation to the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Services department.

December 11, 2020 - Your bargaining team is fighting for your future, in spite of your employer. Shaw DOES NOT want a deal. Off to conciliation AGAIN, just like the last few rounds of bargaining with this employer.

October 29, 2020 - In order to achieve a fair and respectful collective agreement - the Union passed a sensible package over that addressed the Company's concerns as well as advancing your needs. In response Shaw Communications responded with a package of their own that is simple; Rollbacks! Except you do not work for Walmart. You perform skilled, technical labour and you neither want nor need a regressive deal that doesn’t respect this fact.
