October 30, 2020 - As the Executive Board met by Zoom videoconference in mid-October, Board members received Officer and Committee reports and approved the amalgamation of Units 1, 5 and 7 into a new Unit 7. Sister Brooke Downey stepped down from her positions as REO Ontario and Chair of the Civil and Human Rights Committee; the Local Union is thankful for her fierce activism and dedication to the membership.

September 21, 2020 - Local 1944 created a poster and organized a photo contest to honour all Telecom Workers that allow Canadians to work from home. The contest is now over, and all the votes tallied and our winners are:

September 4, 2020 - Canada is changing rapidly, with automation drastically altering the country’s economy and workforce. Low wages and unsafe working conditions seem to be the norm. Workers feel they cannot compete, and they fear that they can easily be replaced if they complain.

August 20, 2020 - As mentioned in the Acting President’s Message of August 19, 2020, Local 1944 is about to begin the process of electing members of the Local 1944 – Telus Bargaining Committee, and Unit Delegates to the Local Union Delegated Meeting, taking place March 16-18, 2021. Nominations for both sets of positions will take place at 3rd quarter Unit Meetings which occur throughout September and October, and the election will take place by electronic ballot, on a one-member-one-vote basis, November 20, 2020.
