Once again this year, the Alberta Federation of Labour (AFL), in collaboration with the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC), will host students from across Alberta at their Winter School. The event is set to take place at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge from January 7 to 12, 2024.

USW Local 1944 is inviting its members to apply for attendance.
Local 1944 Members, Our brothers and sisters from Unit 60 working at Rogers Communications (formerly Shaw) in Vancouver, Richmond, Surrey, and Langley served 72-hour strike notice to their employer on Friday in an effort to achieve a fair collective agreement. After 26 days at the Table over the past nine months, Unit 60 members remain resolute in their refusal to live in a world where they can lose their jobs and watch contractors continue to do their work. The Strike Notice let the company know that we’d begin a series of rotating strikes next week.
Hello Members,

Get ready to join us for the Next Generation International Conference, March 3-8, 2024, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center and Westin Hotel.
We have met with the employer committee twice so far this year and have finally seen their wage package. As you can imagine, it was insulting and contained nothing to address the financial impacts of the past couple of years.
Once again this year, the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) will host students from across BC at their Winter School at Harrison Hot Springs from January 15 to 20, 2023.

Once again this year, the Alberta Federation of Labour (AFL), in partnership with the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC), will be hosting students from across Alberta at their Winter School at Jasper Park Lodge from January 9-13, 2023. USW Local 1944 calls for members to submit applications to attend, from which only a few will be selected.

Several exciting topics will be discussed, such as Collective Bargaining, Conflict Management, Labour History, Standing in Solidarity with Indigenous Peoples and more.

We would like to first thank you all for your support for our first USW /ADTbT BBQ.

Bargaining Update #3

We met with the company on June 14th and 15th, 2022, and began the bargaining process with the initial exchange of our non-monetary proposals.

Unfortunately, due to a medical issue on the employer’s committee, the committees will not be able to meet again until August for further negotiations.

Every year on April 28, we recognize the National Day of Mourning across Canada. This day is dedicated to remembering and honouring those who have lost their lives, or suffered injury or illness on the job. This year it hits especially close to our Local. It will have been 16 days since we lost our Brother Keith Murphy to a fatal workplace accident.

April 6, 2022 - Firstly, on behalf of your newly elected Bargaining Committee, we would like to express our thanks for your support and belief in us to fight for you to get a collective agreement that respects you, your work and your families!

The Committee has been able to meet several days over Zoom to begin some bargaining training while you had the opportunity to tell us what workplace issues are really important to you via the Bargaining Survey, which was open until March 25th.
