Telus.net Email Outage

August 22, 2019 - Your Local Union 1944 wishes to convey our gratitude to you for your phone calls into our offices regarding the Telus.net email outage. Rest assured our number one priority is your job and your job protection. Your Union has been in communication with Telus regarding their use of managers on the front lines. Naturally, we object to the use of management in customer-facing roles.

Announcement from the Administrator for August 9, 2019 August 9, 2019 - I am pleased to announce that we have established a Grievance Committee for Local 1944. The creation of this new Committee is a key component of our overall Strategic Plan that was developed by President Isabelle Miller with the assistance of District 3 Director, Steve Hunt and myself.

July 30, 2019 - Pride events are taking place until September. Our Local recognizes and supports the struggles of our LGBTQ members. All individuals should be treated as being equally deserving of respect, dignity and freedom. We must continue to change mentalities and build safe work environments for all of our members. Pride events are the opportunity to support human rights for all.

As we celebrate the hundredth anniversary of the 1919 Winnipeg General Strike, there are several lessons to be learned from this historic moment of Canada’s labour movement. Much of what workers were fighting for 100 years ago we need to keep fighting for today. With newly elected Conservative governments in Ontario and Alberta, we mustn’t take our rights for granted. Understanding how events unfolded in 1919 can prepare us for securing a better future.
