Quebec and Maritimes

October 31, 2019 - Check out the October 2019 issue of your magazine.

In this October issue, we honour Peter Massy, a beloved and fervent labour activist who helped shape our Local Union. Brother Massy died earlier this month and he is dearly missed by all those who had the chance to know him.

October 7, 2019 - We wish to advise everyone that Jordan Mohle has resigned from his Trustee position on the Local 1944 Executive Board. We thank Brother Mohle for all the work that he contributed since taking on this role in 2016. We are pleased to inform that Ross Brown, a Plant brother working at Telus in the Lower Mainland of BC, has stepped up to take on the role of Trustee.

October 4, 2019 - On Wednesday, September 25th, Peter Massy, a legendary activist of our predecessor Union, the Telecommunications Workers Union, passed away after a prolonged battle with cancer.

September 26, 2019 - Tomorrow, September 27, people around the world will march to join a truly global movement for the climate. As union activists, we are directly involved in addressing climate change, as it will increase economic inequalities, affect our jobs, hurt our families and communities.

September 13, 2019 - Earlier this week, 91 members in Units 207 and 213 from Calgary and Edmonton, Alberta, received a letter advising them of a grievance resolution that applies to their work group, providing for a lump sum payout of $1,000 each.

September 3, 2019 - Further to our announcement of Donna Hokiro as Temporary Acting President of Local 1944, we are pleased to advise that Pierre-Luc Dick, the current Regional Executive Officer for Quebec, has accepted our invitation to step up and take on the role as Acting Vice-President to assist Donna in her new activities. Further, we are pleased to advise that Robert J. Briza agreed to assume the role of Acting Regional Executive Officer for Quebec.

In Solidarity,

August 30, 2019 - We wish to advise everyone that Donna Hokiro has been appointed Temporary Acting President of Local 1944 during Isabelle Miller’s absence. August 30, 2019 - On Monday, September 2, 2019, and throughout the weekend, we celebrate Labour Day. Let’s remember what Canadian labour rights we all owe to Union activism: safer workplaces, maternity and paternity leave, medical care, weekends, paid vacation, unemployment insurance, better public pensions, and a recent ban on asbestos, among so many other achievements. Take a moment to imagine how your working conditions would be if there had been no union to fight for them.
