October 19, 2018 - USW Local 1944 encourages our members in British Columbia to make their vote count tomorrow, October 20, for the 2018 Municipal Elections.

October 5, 2018 - The 2018 Municipal Elections in British Columbia are now underway.

October 3, 2018 - October 4 is the National Day to commemorate Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (hereafter MMIWG).

October 3, 2018 - BC Hydro has notified us that they will be performing emergency work around our Burnaby Head Office on Thursday, October 4th.

October 2, 2018 - We appreciate the patience from USW Local 1944 members as we worked through Administration over the past few months. 

October 1, 2018 - In Canada, October is Women’s History Month, a time dedicated to honour the achievements and contributions of women and girls today and throughout our history.

September 12, 2018 - The USW is pleased to work with Local 1944 to offer Shop Steward Level 1 courses across Canada. Registration for Level 1 is now available for November and December 2018 classes.

August 31, 2018 - On Monday, September 3, 2018, we celebrate Labour Day. We remember and give thanks for what unions have done to shape Canadian working conditions and labour rights.

August 27, 2018 - On Monday, September 3, 2018, USW Local 1944 will be participating in the Vancouver “Labour Day at the PNE” rally, organized by the Vancouver and District Labour Council. 

August 16, 2018 - The USW Local 1944 Health and Safety Committee would like to alert members to the potential dangers of airborne particulate being caused by forest fires.

The Canada Labour Code defines “danger” as “any hazard, condition or activity that could reasonably be expected to be an imminent or serious threat to the life or health of a person exposed to it before the hazard or condition can be corrected or the activity altered.”

The Provinces of BC and Alberta have issued Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) Advisories as a result of the forest fires burning in BC and the North West United States.
