October 24, 2022 Bargaining Update #6

We have had several days of bargaining in the last month and we are happy to say that we have reached agreement with the company on almost all of the non-monetary items and have developed a framework of how the overall Collective Agreement will look once we are eventually done bargaining. Some items that are covered under non-monetary are things like a grievance procedure, health and safety language, non-discrimination and seniority recognition.

It is very common to resolve non-monetary items first before the more “meaty” bargaining on topics that are more costly to the employer (vacation, wages, benefits, etc.) and, as this is a first agreement, this is the process we are following here as well.

The previously arranged meeting dates for this week have been postponed so that the respective bargaining committees can finalize their monetary proposals. We will resume negotiations on November 1, 2022.

As much as we understand the desire to get a contract quickly, we are looking at this as a good sign that the company is taking bargaining seriously.

We are looking forward to receiving and reviewing their monetary package and will have subsequent updates coming in November. Please continue to show your bargaining committee your support as we are ardently demanding respect for you at the table.
