ADT by Telus Bargaining Update #10

Welcome to the Family ADT members!

As you know, ‘ADT by Telus’ was organized into USW Local 1944 last year, however, the USW International in Pittsburgh has now officially chartered the Local’s ‘ADT by Telus’ workers as your own official Unit of the Local, Unit 250! Unit 250 is now the 38th Unit of the Local.

One implication of this is that the Unit will be conducting elections to determine your very own Unit Chair, Unit Vice-Chair, Unit Secretary and Unit Counsellors. More information about these roles and about the election process will be coming soon.

USW is the largest industrial union in North America with a whopping 850,000 members. Not only are these members standing with you, they have also fought hard for better working conditions since the 1940’s! The commitment is still the same, higher wages and better working conditions, but there are now more opportunities than ever to play a part in making these improvements. We now have many committees for members to join to make a difference in their workplaces. Health and Safety committees, Next Generation committee, Women of Steel committee and the Bargaining Committee, just to name a few, are all working hard for better working conditions every day.

Prepared below is a message from Local 1944’s President Donna Hokiro, while you watch this video please think about where you can be an asset to your fellow workers and how you can support your Bargaining Committee as we continue on this path together.

You will soon be receiving a phone call from a member of our National Engagement team if you haven’t already. We will be spending some time with each of you to go over some of the fantastic benefits of being a member of USW Local 1944, and about a variety of new opportunities available for you to gain assistance and make a difference at work. You will learn what it means to be a Union member and have the opportunity to ask questions during this call.

As we continue to walk this path together, remember you are not alone. One athlete cannot win a hockey game or football game on their own. The same way a Union cannot function without a unified workforce. We are stronger together and will not stop fighting for fair wages and until better working conditions are in place for ALL our members. Stay strong and stay United! #InItTogether

In Solidarity,

USW Local 1944
