Dear members,
This week, USW Local 1944 Table Officers and Local Union Representatives were invited to participate in a specialized training at the United Steelworkers Canadian National Office (USW CNO).
We were treated to a day and a half seminar, hosted by Robert Healey and Debra Burton from the USW Legal department, as well as Lisa Rotatore, Industrial Relations Officer at the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB).
The training was followed by a day and a half staff meeting with the Local Union Representatives, hosted by the Local Table Officers, and supervised by Ron Wyatt, Administrator for our Local. During this meeting, several work processes were reviewed and modernized. Your Local Union Representatives were provided with information, with a view to implementing future strategies for our Local Union. This staff meeting at the USW CNO was held just a few weeks after a staff meeting Secretary-Treasurer Michael Phillips and I held with our Move Up Clerical staff, also reviewing certain work practices.
As our Local continues to transition on its new path, the work that our staff do is necessarily evolving too. I want to thank every member of our staff for their adaptability, their professionalism, and for their dedication to you, our membership, as we go through this adjustment period. It was such a pleasure to be able to reconnect face to face with our Local Union Representative staff this past week.
We continue to value and show importance to working with as much transparency as possible to better service all of you.
As I promised in the previous President’s Message, we will be communicating soon with your Unit Officials regarding the new processes that we are implementing in order to enhance your overall membership experience.
Lots of things are happening on our social media, so follow us on Facebook and Twitter @usw1944. Visit our web site at https://usw1944.ca as often as possible, so that you may know what we do when we work for you. Please also encourage fellow members to do the same. Thank you!
In Solidarity,
Isabelle Miller, National President of USW Local 1944
