Positive Changes on the Horizon

February 14, 2019

Dear members,

Several of you have shared your displeasure regarding the format of your regular unit meetings. Some points raised were with respect to the structure of the meetings themselves, the frequency or lack thereof, the desire to be able to participate by other means if you’re not physically able to attend, and so on.

We are committed to turning things around to improve your unit meeting experience and make them more engaging.

USW Local 1944 is currently undergoing some changes to better integrate with the United Steelworkers’ structure. We are working closely with the Administrators to schedule and implement these positive changes.

Over the next few weeks, Unit Officials will receive detailed information regarding the new processes that will apply to Unit Meetings. We are eager to see these processes implemented, as we strongly believe that they will be beneficial to each of you. The process for scheduling of Unit Meetings is also being modified. For this reason, no Unit Meetings shall be scheduled over the next few weeks until the Local sends an official communication to Unit Officials outlining the new processes.

Your Local Union Representatives and clerical staff will be provided all pertinent details prior to our launch, which will take place in the next few weeks.

As events unfold, it will be my pleasure to provide each of you with more detailed communications about what we are doing for you. This Local is yours; I work for you, as all Officers do, and I strongly believe you should know what we do in our efforts to represent your best interests.

I encourage you to follow us on Facebook and Twitter @usw1944, and to visit our web site at https://usw1944.ca as often as possible, so that you may know what we do when we work for you. Please encourage fellow members to do the same. Thank you!

In Solidarity,

Isabelle Miller, National President of USW Local 1944
