May 16, 2018 - The USW Local 1944 Executive Board met on Monday, May 14th and Tuesday, May 15th, 2018. During this meeting, the Local Union Election Tellers presented their report of the recent 2018 Local Union Officers and Unit Official Elections.
As per the USW Local Union Elections Manual, the process is for the Election Tellers to bring forward their report at the first Executive Board meeting following the election. Prior to conducting the vote on the Tellers’ report, any protests that have been properly filed must be read, debated and voted on by the Executive Board at the meeting.
The Executive Board was unable to complete this review and voting of the protests and the Tellers report over the two-day meeting. The Swearing-in Ceremony did not take place this morning, Wednesday, May 16th, 2018.
We know there is confusion around the process and refer members to the USW Local Union Elections Manual. This is the first time our Local has participated in the USW one member, one vote elections. We are working through this together.
The Executive Board will reconvene on Friday, May 18th, 2018. The Swearing-in Ceremony will be scheduled for a future date.
More information will be released as information is confirmed.
In Solidarity,
USW Local 1944
