July 26, 2018 - USW Local 1944 is pleased to inform our members that after six months of negotiations, and a marathon 32-consecutive hour bargaining session, a tentative agreement was reached between Unit 60 Vancouver and Surrey certifications and Shaw Cable on Wednesday, July 25, 2018.
Full details of the tentative collective agreement will be sent to members of Unit 60 along with details of the upcoming ratification meetings.
Highlights of the agreement include:
- Wage increases in each year of the five-year agreement
- Lower employee contribution to the Health and Welfare Plan
- The Take Vehicle Home Program "TVHP" will be voluntary and includes better parameters for use of GPS for the purpose of discipline
- Improved language for bereavement leave
- Increased Warehouse Worker Sunday premium from 0% to 10% of the straight time hourly rate
- Improved service work jurisdiction and the removal of Shaw's In Business Technicians
Unit 60 Bargaining Team endorses the agreement and encourages members to support its ratification.
"It has been a long bargaining process for Unit 60 over the past six months," said Lee Riggs, USW Local 1944 Chief Negotiator. "This week, we finally reached a tentative contract with Shaw Cable, that we consider to be fair for our members. What really made the difference throughout the bargaining with Shaw was the strong determination of our Bargaining Committee and the solidarity of our Unit 60 members. The Unit 60 Bargaining Committee, Unit 60 members, and myself, thank all of our members across Canada for the strong support they have shown to Unit 60 throughout these months."
In Solidarity,
USW Local 1944
