August 10, 2018 - Yesterday, Thursday, August 9, 2018, Unit 60 members from the Vancouver/Richmond and Surrey/Langley certifications attended a ratification meeting in Burnaby, BC.
Results of the ratification vote for the proposed USW Local 1944-Shaw Vancouver and Surrey Collective Agreements have been tabulated and the agreements have been ratified. They will be signed by the Local Union and the Company and will be effective, upon signing, from March 24, 2018 to March 23, 2023.
Unit 60 members were asked to vote “Yes” or “No” to the question “Are you in favour of ratifying the tentative Collective Agreement reached on July 25, 2018?” The results are as follows:
Vancouver/Richmond Certification
Total eligible ballots voting “Yes”: 141
Total eligible ballots voting “No”: 8
Total Ballots Received: 149
Spoiled Ballots: 0
Total in favour: 94.6%
Surrey/Langley Certification
Total eligible ballots voting “Yes”: 82
Total eligible ballots voting “No”: 2
Total Ballots Received: 84
Spoiled Ballots: 0
Total in favour: 97.6%
Highlights of the agreement include:
- Wage increases in each year of the five-year agreement
- Lower employee contribution to the Health and Welfare Plan
- A Take Vehicle Home Program "TVHP" will be voluntary and includes better parameters for use of GPS for the purpose of discipline
- Improved language for bereavement leave
- Increased Warehouse Worker Sunday premium from 0% to 10% of the straight time hourly rate
- Improved service work jurisdiction and the removal of Shaw's In Business Technicians
