April 4, 2018 - Seven more members from Local 1944 will be attending the prestigious USW's Leadership Development Scholarship four-year program in 2018.

Participants are selected based on their activism, interest, and commitment within our Local and their communities.

The program provides our members with the opportunity for specialized activist training in a classroom of rank and file Steelworkers from various workplaces across North America, where they will learn with and from fellow USW members.

Participants will be given the skills to expand their strategic planning and leadership abilities, and learn to effectively communicate with the community and media. There will be a heavy emphasis placed on a collaborative learning atmosphere that will help leaders define and obtain goals. 

Congratulations to Trevor Malloy (Unit 208), Czar Loquia (Unit 10), Katelyn Armstrong (Unit 4), who were selected and will be starting their training on April 17th, and to Robert Briza (Unit 604), Travis Ostash (Unit 9), Val Kung (Unit 213) and Natasha Aodan (Unit 502) who will start in July.

"These members have shown their leadership and have proven consistency in their commitment within our Local," said USW Local 1944 National President Lee Riggs. "Completing the LDS program will further develop their skills so that, in turn, they can empower other members and make positive changes in their workplace, union and in their communities."

The members selected this year, as well as members who are in their second, third and fourth year of the program, will all be heading to Linden Hall in Pennsylvania for their training. We wish them all the best during their studies and we are confident that they will be the proud ambassadors for our Local.
