Bargaining Update #21 – Tentative Agreement reached

Nine months of negotiations with Rogers Communications concluded with a tentative agreement reached on the evening of Friday, November 17.

The two sides hammered out the final details of the deal which focused on the Company’s commitments around jurisdiction, job security, and wages.

“I am so utterly proud of the brave members of Unit 60 who showed determination, grit, and resolve in the face of corporate greed,” said Donna Hokiro, President of USW Local 1944. “Walking a picket line is never easy, but members united like never before in support of each other and, more nobly, in support of the future of each other’s families. This agreement will secure your work to ensure your future in the industry is never in doubt for many, many years to come.”

“Locked out Unit 60 members became the face of what is now being called the Rogers Anti-Scab Legislation,” Hokiro continued. “Their voices rang out across the country as Canadians witnessed for themselves how the use of scab labour by companies like Rogers destroys communities.”

Members will be receiving a summary of the tentative agreement to review before voting on whether to ratify on Monday, November 20, at 1:30 PM at the Metrotown Hilton. Doors and food at 1:00 PM.

Unit 60’s commitment to these negotiations has been second to none. The passion displayed on the lines and the dedication shown to each other over these past few weeks proved that the strength of character and conviction are our greatest assets. Leaders old and new rose to the challenge in the face of adversity. Unit 60 will move forward as a force like never before.

In solidarity,

USW Local 1944
