Rally in Québec on April 28th, for the National Day of Mourning

March 26, 2019 - On April 28th, we celebrate the National Day of Mourning and we commemorate workers who have been killed, injured or suffered illness due to workplace related hazards or disease. Local 1944 members in Quebec are encouraged to participate in the rally scheduled that day, at the National Assembly in Québec City.

The rally is intended as a tribute to the victims of work accidents or occupational diseases. It will also call on Members of the National Assembly (MNAs) to recognize the importance of health and safety prevention in the workplace, with a view to decreasing the number of victims. The rally will be held a few days before a meeting between the Fédération des Travailleurs (ses) du Québec (FTQ) affiliates and MNAs on May 1st, during which health and safety laws will be discussed.

The FTQ has booked a bus to allow workers who live in the Montreal area to attend the rally on April 28th:

  • Departure at noon (10200, Boulevard du Golf, Anjou H1J 2Y7) – a meal will be provided.
  • Ceremony from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm at the National Assembly in Quebec City – a meal will be provided before the return trip.
  • Arrival in Anjou scheduled around 8:00 pm.

Please note that parking spaces are available in front of the premises of the Fraternité Inter-Provinciale des Ouvriers en Électricité (FIPOE)-FTQ-Construction (10200 Golf Blvd., Anjou) and the surrounding streets.

Please communicate your interest in attending by April 18 to jhebert@metallos.ca.

If you need more details, please call Julie Hébert, USW Health and Safety Officer, at (514) 850-2244.

In Solidarity,
