April 11, 2017 - Today is the official writ drop kicking off the upcoming provincial election in BC. We know that electing labour friendly government helps to advance workers’ rights. For too long British Columbians have been shorted by Christy Clark and the BC Liberals, who seem to cater only to their wealthy donors. On May 9th we have an opportunity to help elect a government that will work with the labour movement, for this reason, the United Steelworkers have endorsed John Horgan and the BC NDP.
This is a critical election; British Columbians can no longer afford four more years under BC Liberals. The cost of living continues to rise and we’re seeing more and more people fall through the cracks; good jobs are disappearing, and public services are chronically underfunded. We need to mobilize to help effect change. Now is the time to get involved to help elect the BC NDP; donate and/or volunteer, and attend events to show your support for the BC NDP.
The BC Federation of Labour (BC Fed) is also supporting John Horgan and the BC NDP. They’ve put out advertisements calling for British Columbians to tell Christy Clark and the BC Liberals that it’s game over for their government. The BC Fed has organized door-to-door canvassing to help elect BC NDP candidates. We encourage all of our members to be active and engaged in elections of all levels of government.
