Rogers Abbotsford Bargaining Update #3
Hello Members,
Following our Ratification/Strike-Vote Meeting that was held on Friday June 6th, 2025, your Bargaining Committee’s spokesperson, Jayson Little, sent notification to your employer that the members had been presented the offer, and had soundly rejected it.
In that same notification, we advised that we would be willing to resume negotiations.
In a disappointing, and frankly tone-deaf, response, the company replied with a reiteration of how great a deal they feel it is and that they “do not see merit in returning to the table”.
The bottom line is this: The membership in Abbotsford deserve better! We are sick of doing the same roles for less pay than our counterparts in Vancouver, Richmond, Surrey and Langley – especially when there is often work that is done shoulder to shoulder with each other. We are sick of being isolated by our employer and being held back.
The disappointment with Rogers is, sadly, not new. The Rogers-Shaw merger included several promises related to network expansion and community connectivity in Western Canada. Rogers committed to investing $1 billion in improving connectivity for rural, remote, and Indigenous communities, including deploying 5G and high-speed internet where it's not currently available. They also pledged to create new jobs and boost the Western Canadian economy.
While these all seem wonderful, the real truth is that in just over a year since Rogers has returned to Western Canada, this is shaping up to be the 3rd significant labour dispute. These blatant efforts to suppress wage growth is a far cry from the “creating new jobs and boosting the Western Canadian economy” promise. Shame!
We will continue to update as events unfold.
In Solidarity,
Your Bargaining Committee
