USW Local 1944 is ready and waiting to reopen negotiations with Telus to conclude a fair Collective Agreement. If you are already aware of our position on the issues you can see that we are not asking for anything outrageous: wages that account for the increasing cost of living, some improvements of little cost to Telus, and we’re seeking that Telus drop further concessions to health benefits, pension and other items, which are wholly unnecessary given Telus’ present financial success.
Participation in the Online Bargaining Support Kit Part 1 – Awards was fantastic. We filled the social media and inboxes of many organizations that have given Telus awards recently, and we hope that this makes them reconsider the ethical aspect of who they choose to honour in the future. It’s apparent that members are wanting to do what they can to make Telus act fairly towards its workforce.

October 21, 2021 - The Union is very happy to announce that after an eight (8) year fight we have won an arbitration worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, one of the largest damage awards against Telus in our Union's history!

October 13, 2021 - We have been in constant contact with Telus regarding their current requirement for COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Screening.

Telus has agreed with the Union that their policy needed improvement.

We are happy to hear that we were taken seriously and that there will be changes to the testing requirements. Members were previously asked to test on specific days of the week regardless of their schedule. That testing will now be conducted only on working days, and only 30 minutes prior to start of scheduled shift start. There will be no requirement to test on days off.

September 27, 2021 - The Union is seeing an increase in grievances regarding denial of Short Term Disability claims. As we know, the appeal process can in some cases take considerable time. With these wait times, some members have felt the need to return to work prior to their medical leave end date since they are often unsure of the appeal outcome, and are not receiving pay.

September 23, 2021 - Over the last week, USW Local 1944 members should have received a package containing voting instructions and a unique PIN for the upcoming USW International Election nomination vote on Wednesday, September 29th.

This vote will determine who, if anyone, Local 1944 nominates for offices of the USW International Executive Board. A sample voting package can be viewed here.

September 10, 2021 - On June 16, 2021, the USW Local 1944 released a Hotline entitled “Cost of Living Pay Increase”. It has been brought to our attention that a number of members covered under Appendix B (ON/QC) have not received their 0.6% wage increase pursuant to Article 24 Cost of Living Allowance of the collective agreement.
