While we were eager to share both the English and French versions simultaneously, please note that the French copy is still undergoing final translation. Rest assured; we will promptly notify you as soon as it becomes available.

Labour Day offers us the chance to applaud the remarkable achievements of Canadian workers, to recognize the invaluable contributions of labour towards forging a brighter nation.

Members of Indigenous ancestry (First Nations, Inuit and Métis) are invited to apply to attend the USW Third National Gathering of Indigenous Steelworkers that will take place on October 5-6, 2022 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
The USW will be holding its National Women’s Conference at the Delta Hotel by Marriott in Quebec City, Quebec, on October 17-20, 2022.

Every year, USW Local 1944 offers 7 scholarships to members’ children graduating from high school and registering in any post-secondary public institution:

  • 3 educational scholarships of $750
  • 4 scholarships of $1,000

 The following requirements must be met:

USW Local 1944 Trustee Natasha Aodan has left the employ of Telus and therefore by extension the Local’s Executive Board. However, we are very pleased to announce that the Executive Board has unanimously selected Jennifer Lyons to join the Board in this Trustee position.
The application process is now open for members seeking to become a Local 1944 Delegate to the USW International Constitutional Convention taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada, from Monday August 8th to Thursday August 11th (with travel days on August 7th and 12th).

USW Local 1944 now has a Digital Union Board! We’ve received feedback from our members that our Union boards need updating on a more consistent basis. As such, your Union Boards Committee has been hard at work cataloguing our current network of boards in an effort to revamp 1944’s presence in the workplace.

Every year on April 28, we recognize the National Day of Mourning across Canada. This day is dedicated to remembering and honouring those who have lost their lives, or suffered injury or illness on the job. This year it hits especially close to our Local. It will have been 16 days since we lost our Brother Keith Murphy to a fatal workplace accident.
