Dear Members, We have uploaded the new Telus 2023-2027 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). It is now accessible online. While we were eager to share both the English and French versions simultaneously, please note that the French copy is still undergoing final translation. Rest assured; we will promptly notify you as soon as it becomes available.

In the heart of Philadelphia, a landmark event unfolded as thousands of dedicated union leaders from across the globe congregated for the 6th UNI Global Union World Congress.

Labour Day offers us the chance to applaud the remarkable achievements of Canadian workers, to recognize the invaluable contributions of labour towards forging a brighter nation.

Your elected Bargaining Committee met the last 2 days of January to begin their preparations for the upcoming round of bargaining. Please take a few moments to fill in the attached survey so that the Committee can best represent you at the bargaining table.
We have met with the employer committee twice so far this year and have finally seen their wage package. As you can imagine, it was insulting and contained nothing to address the financial impacts of the past couple of years.
The CRTC has landed on the side of customers about Telus’ arbitrary credit card processing fees.
Once again this year, the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) will host students from across BC at their Winter School at Harrison Hot Springs from January 15 to 20, 2023.
USW Local 1944 is aware of Telus’ abuse of compulsory overtime language under the Collective Agreement. In response, we are filing a policy grievance against the practice of forcing compulsory overtime when members already have scheduled vacations. We are also supporting the filing of grievances where the scheduling of compulsory overtime violates other provisions of the Canada Labour Code.

As you may be aware, your current Collective Agreement is set to expire on November 30, 2022. With that in mind, your Bargaining Committee has been elected at your Q3 Unit meeting. They are Al Pasternak and Bev Gordon! Al brings experience and continuity from having served your last Bargaining Committee and Bev brings fresh eyes and ideas. Your elected members will be supported at the table by a Staff Representative from the USW as well as a Local Union Representative from Local 1944.

Once again this year, the Alberta Federation of Labour (AFL), in partnership with the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC), will be hosting students from across Alberta at their Winter School at Jasper Park Lodge from January 9-13, 2023. USW Local 1944 calls for members to submit applications to attend, from which only a few will be selected. 

Several exciting topics will be discussed, such as Collective Bargaining, Conflict Management, Labour History, Standing in Solidarity with Indigenous Peoples and more.
