Today, Tuesday, April 23rd, 2024, USW Local 1944 conducted the Election of Local Union Officers and Unit Officials 2024. Voting ran from 5:00 am to 8:00 pm (Pacific Time) by electronic ballot using Intelivote.
Tomorrow, Tuesday, April 23rd, 2024, members of the USW Local 1944 will be electing the Local Union Officers and Unit Officials.

December 1, 2018 - December 1st is the United National World AIDS Day, a day dedicated to reinforcing awareness, global solidarity and action to fulfill our collective duty to end the epidemic in this generation.

Today, we also commemorate those who have passed on, and celebrate the victories over the disease, with the increased access to treatment and prevention services.

November 24, 2017 - November 25th is the UN International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

Gender-based violence is a human rights violation that has tremendous costs, impacting national budgets and overall development, and encompassing a multitude of intolerable facts. Around the world, 19 per cent of women between 15 and 49 years of age have experienced physical and/or sexual violence in the last 12 months.

November 23, 2017 - The TWU-USW Employee Life and Health Plan is looking for a USW Local 1944 member who is interested to serve as a plan trustee.

November 22, 2017 - Yesterday, members of USW Local 1944 conducted a vote for the 2017 Local Union Bylaw Ratification.

November 20, 2017 - Tomorrow, Tuesday November 21st, 2017, members of USW Local 1944 will be voting for the 2017 Local Union Bylaw Ratification.

The vote will be occurring by electronic ballot, between the hours of 5:00 am and 5:00 pm (Pacific Time).

We remind our members that the full language of the proposed Bylaws changes is available online.

The Local's National Executive Council strongly recommends the ratification of the proposed Bylaws changes. Please refer to the dedicated Hotline to have a better understanding of the benefits of each proposed Bylaws change.

November 20, 2017 - From now until December 6th, 2017, USW Local 1944 Women of Steel Committee in the Lower Mainland will be gathering and distributing items and food to the more than one-hundred less fortunate friends and neighbours who are living in tents in Downtown Surrey, BC.

The temperatures are already dropping below zero and the shelters are full and overflowing. Here is a non-exhaustive list of the items we are looking for: food, juice boxes, mandarin oranges, blankets, sleeping bags, hygiene products, gloves, toques... We will also be preparing lunch bags for distribution.

November 17, 2017 - The initiative "Be More Than a Bystander" is organized by the Ending Violence Association of BC (EVA BC) in partnership with the BC Lions. It aims at increasing awareness and understanding about the impact of men's violence against women, and since 2011, the program has already trained over 100,000 people in British Columbia. This year, USW District 3 is partnering to "Break the Silence".
