December 21, 2018 - 2018 has been an eventful year for USW Local 1944. Highlights have included the successful ratification of a progressive collective agreement for our Unit 60 members at Shaw in Vancouver and Surrey, and the many opportunities our members have had to attend various USW District and International Conferences, labour schools and Shop Steward training.

December 20, 2018 - Today, Thursday, December 20, 2018, USW Local 1944 conducted the re-run elections for two (2) positions of Regional Executive Officer for Alberta. Voting ran from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm (Mountain Time) by electronic ballot using Intelivote.

December 19, 2018 - We know that our members at Telus that worked in Concierge positions have been patiently waiting to hear the outcome of grievances filed in 2013 and 2014.

December 19, 2018 - Tomorrow, Thursday, December 20, 2018, eligible members in Alberta Units of USW Local 1944 will be electing two (2) Regional Executive Officers for Alberta. The vote will be occurring between the hours of 7:00 am and 7:00 pm (Mountain Time).

December 18, 2018 - Over the past week, USW Local 1944 eligible members in Alberta Units should have received a package containing voting instructions and a unique PIN for the upcoming Election of two (2) Regional Executive Officers for Alberta on December 20, 2018. The Helpline number that was included was incorrect. Please take note of the correct number below.

December 7, 2018 - The deadline to apply to the new District 6 Mentorship Program is Monday, December 31, 2018. This program is meant to increase exchanges between Steelworkers, by pairing up Leaners with Mentors – both are volunteer roles. The pair is expected to commit for 12 months and to hold a monthly conversation about issues arising from the Learner’s local.

A Learner is a Steelworker looking to expand their skill set. The learner will be picking the topics which they feel they need a more experienced perspective on.
