Weekly Update: November 1-9
200 Ericsson Field Techs join 1944 – On Thursday, Local 1944 was officially certified by the Canada Industrial Relations Board as the new Union of over 200 Ericsson Field Technicians who work on Rogers Wireless Network infrastructure. The vast majority of these technicians had previously signed cards to join our Union, the Tech Union, with job security a top priority. Welcome to all. And for clarity, this is a different group of Ericsson workers than those whose work was recently offshored to India.
Several grievance resolves in the last two weeks – Once a grievance is denied at 1st level, it’s escalated beyond the shop steward and is handled at 2nd level by a Local Union Rep at the Union office. In the last two weeks we’ve achieved the following resolves at 2nd Level with our employers: Two reductions in the length of suspensions, one severance payment issued to a member terminated for culpable behaviour, and one recoding of three days vacation as three days paid bereavement. Always report unfair employer behaviour to a shop steward.
In Solidarity,
Michael Phillips
President
