Discussion with Telus regarding Craft ‘Deep Dives’ and Sales Pressure:

This past Monday, myself, Vice-President Jenn Turner and Secretary-Treasurer Ross Brown had a very direct discussion with senior counterparts at Telus, not only in the Labour Relations department but also including Vice President of CSD (consumer techs) Shaye Draper, and General Manager for BC Interior Craft Jeff Cruickshank. The two subjects of discussion were two of the Union’s highest priorities:

1) Getting a more common-sense and accurate craft time-coding system (including ending the contradictions between official time-use policy versus what frontline managers tell techs to do) to prevent the feeling among technicians that management can deep-dive anyone and find reasons for discipline, and

2) Relieving the intense pressure put upon both Craft and Clerical members to hit ever-increasing sales metrics. This includes tailoring sales metrics to take into account the easier/harder potential for sales in different regions/departments.

We appreciate the company’s interest in having such a detailed discussion, and for including some of their top decision-makers, and the Union looks forward to follow-up meetings and demonstrable progress on these subjects in the near future.

In Solidarity,
