Document, Document, Document: Our employers collect vast amounts of data on us while we’re working, and yet often the time-accounting systems that they have us use are flawed and systematically don’t accurately reflect our day (this is especially true for Telus technicians, who don’t even have break coding). The best way to avoid a situation where you’re scrambling, under questioning, to remember what you were doing on a given day in the past is to Document - Record any mismatch between your actual day and what the company may show in its data, plus your break and lunch times, in a designated Work Journal. To emphasize and facilitate this, the Local will actually be sending each member a CYA Work Journal in the New Year.

Latest resolves: In the last couple weeks we obtained 4 grievance resolves at the Local office level. One member grieved when management said two of her vacation weeks would be unpaid due to a miscalculation, and after lots of work, the Union was able to demonstrate that 9 of these 10 days were indeed owed to the member as paid vacation. Three other grievances for terminations, one for a probationary employee, have been resolved with a settlement payout, with the grievors being content with the settlements reached.
