Hello Members,

Did you know your union is always fighting behind the scenes?

When the collective agreement is violated, or a member is unfairly disciplined or terminated, a Shop Steward can file a grievance. If it’s escalated, the grievance moves to Level 2, and then to Arbitration, handled by Local Union Representatives.

Currently, we have 6 Local Union Representatives covering members across the country. Each Unit also has Shop Stewards to answer questions, represent members, and file grievances.

Since January 1, 2025:

  • 130 letters of discipline or attendance letters have been issued; 90% of those came from TELUS
  • 36 Level 1 grievances were filed by Shop Stewards
  • 67 Level 2 grievances were filed (59 from TELUS)

Note: Terminations go directly to a Level 2 Grievance

Arbitration Information

Arbitration is the final step in the grievance process — it’s where an independent arbitrator hears the case and issues a binding decision.

Currently, your Local has 12 active arbitration cases in progress across Canada, including:

  • Termination and suspension cases for individual members
  • Policy grievances involving payroll, paid medical leave, and vacation allotments
  • Several cases already scheduled through 2026 and 2027

Your Local Union Reps are actively preparing and representing members in each case, ensuring every violation of the collective agreement is challenged and documented.

Looking Ahead

While we continue to push back where possible, the real opportunity for change comes during bargaining. With negotiations on the horizon, the Union will be pressing for stronger protections and clearer rules around discipline, benefits, and fairness at work.

In Solidarity,

Jenn Turner
