Telus Bargaining Update #13

Telus Bargaining Update #13 - July 19, 2022

Telus has heard the Union’s proposals and said they understand the Union's position. However, the Company has shown little movement and instead continues to push their contrary and divisive concessionary proposals, seeking reductions to pensions, benefits, and threatening job uncertainty.

For Appendix A - BC and Alberta
The Company has proposed changes to Appendix A’s benefits, moving members to a Flex Benefits plan, resulting in higher out of pocket costs for similar coverage. They continue to attack the remaining double-time provisions. There is an absolute refusal, on the part of the Company, to provide the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (unless you give up another statutory holiday). The Company is targeting wage rates of the Rackpersons, Customer Help Reps, and Data & Network Support Reps.

For TWPP Members
The Company proposes closing the TWPP to new hires in BC and moving all new members into the Telus corporate Defined Contribution Pension Plan going forward. This will create uncertainty for members’ retirement. Closing the TWPP to future members could be the first step in the company coming after the pension plan that our current TWPP members fought for, won and enjoy.

For Appendix B - Ontario and Quebec
The Union has brought a number of proposals to bring Appendix B up to the level of Appendix A in areas such as paid time off, stat holidays, job security and wage protection. The Company continues to say no to equalizing paid time off provisions between the Appendices, which could force our members to use vacation time to go to a doctor’s appointment, take care of a sick family member, or other emergencies that may come up from time to time.

Appendix C - Competitor Operator Services
The Company proposes to send more of your calls to other call centers outside of the Local’s bargaining unit. This move could potentially cost members jobs. They also propose to remove the float day in exchange for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The Union believes that you should get both days!

Telus’ continued success has been in large part due to the hard work of our members, yet time and again the Company refuses to share that wealth with us! Telus can do better and should do better!
