Bargaining Update #25

With your 97% strike mandate, we entered into conciliation, and negotiations between the parties have resumed. The Union and the Company met with FMCS Conciliator Kathy Peters throughout the last two weeks. Meaningful discussions on outstanding key issues have taken place, and we have continued negotiating toward the best possible deal for you, the members. Your support is making this possible.

We thank all the members, the USW National and District offices, as well as other labour organizations and allies that have rallied in support of bargaining. Over the past weeks, our members and allies have shown their support by leafleting outside Telus offices, Telus stores, and at the Canadian Telecom Summit. The USW Bat Light has lit up Telus offices and the Rogers Center in Toronto during the Telecom Summit with the message “Hey Telus: Stop Offshoring Jobs! #RiseUP”. You can find photos and posts of these actions on the USW1944 Facebook page; we encourage you to like, share, and discuss these posts with your family and friends. Stay in touch with your Unit leaders and PUMA groups for information on upcoming days of action coming to a location near you.

The Conciliation Officer is unavailable for the next two weeks. Therefore, a delegation from your Bargaining Committee is in Ottawa for several days lobbying federal Members of Parliament on the issues of keeping telecom jobs in Canada, anti-scab legislation and implementing government procurement policies that support Canadian workers.

The Bargaining Committee has further conciliation dates scheduled to meet between December 13th and the 22nd. We remain focused and determined to get you a fair deal, and we will continue to keep you updated.

In Strength and Solidarity,

Your Bargaining Committee
