Hello Captec members,

Your bargaining committee and the company met on May 28 to continue bargaining your first collective agreement. There has been some movement, however there is still lots of work to be done.

There has been agreement or close to agreement in:

  • Structure of the agreement
  • Health and Safety
  • Dispute Resolutions (Arbitrations)
  • Job Postings
  • Tools
  • Leaves of Absences
  • Access to your Personnel files
  • Seniority protections

Areas where there is some work to be done:

  • Automation protections
  • Vacation policy
  • Recall rights
  • Job titles (specifically who will be captured by a collective agreement)
  • ALL monetary items

The issue concerning a possible relocation is stalling the progress, however, we are discussing the issue at the Ontario Labour Relations Board on June 23. We hope to provide further updates about this specific issue as we learn them.

As you may know, the Union and the Company agreed that you would be provided a cost-of-living increase of 3% (retro to January 1) while the bargaining process continues.

While the Union agreed about the modest increase, we still believe that the Company is undervaluing the work you do. We appreciate that the bargaining process is taking time, due to various issues and the Union appreciates your patience as we continue to bargain to protect your jobs, and improve your wages and working conditions.

Stay tuned.

In Solidarity,

Your Bargaining Committee
