Captec Bargaining Update #1
Dear Members,
We would like to provide you with an update following our recent meetings held by your elected Bargaining Committee and the assigned Union Reps regarding the development of our first collective agreement for members working at Captec Americas Inc.
We met virtually on February 17, 18 and 19. During these meetings, the bargaining committee reviewed member priorities (thank-you very much for your participation in the survey!), did some USW bargaining training, discussed proposal development, and finalized several key areas that will guide negotiations. We drafted our opening proposals on improving working conditions, increasing job security, and several other important protections that reflect the feedback received from the membership survey. We also had some fulsome dialogue on increased wages and overall compensation; however monetary items generally aren’t discussed at the beginning of bargaining and are the last items tabled.
This meeting was an important step in preparing for negotiations and ensuring that the committee is aligned and ready to effectively represent all your interests at the bargaining table.
The committee is also continuing to work through the remaining outstanding issues and refine additional proposals that will be brought forward during negotiations. Your input continues to shape our approach, and we will keep you informed as these items are finalized and as bargaining progresses.
Our next step is to secure some dates to meet and bargain with the employer. Once we have confirmed those dates, we’ll let you know.
Thank you for your continued engagement and solidarity.
In solidarity,
Your Bargaining Committee
