About this course: This 3-day course was created for Local 1944’s unique needs, in collaboration with the USW Canadian National Office. It focuses on the steward’s role as educator and advocate, and the grievance procedure. Participants will be provided with a manual and an information binder, designed to be utilized as a reference manual to assist them with a variety of workplace issues.

Who can attend: The course is open to all members in good standing. Members who have taken a Shop Steward Level 1 course prior to 2021 can also register.

Equipment: Participants will need a computer or tablet with a functioning camera and microphone.

Register in two steps:

  • Click on the “Register here” button above, and fill in your information online via Eventbrite.
  • Once this is done, submit your Union Time Off request to your manager as soon as you register for the course, and follow up with them every couple days until they confirm that Union Time Off is approved. For our Telus members: Use the link go/UTO when connected to the Telus intranet to submit your Union Time Off Request (not on company time). If the company UTO tool isn’t working (as has been the case recently) please email contact@usw1944.ca to let us know that you need UTO and this time only we will request it on your behalf once we receive your email.

Each member can only sign up for one class, and can only change it for another class with the approval of the Union.

If you are selected to attend these workshops, you are asked to submit to the Local a written summary/review of your experience after you have attended.

Register as soon as possible to seize this opportunity for empowering yourself and your coworkers!

In Solidarity,
