May 10, 2021 - Local 1944 is excited to announce a Shop Steward Level 1 Training session in June. This session will be held in French only.
About this course: This 3-day course was created specifically for Local 1944’s unique needs through the cooperative work of USW Local 1944 and the USW Canadian National Office. It focuses on the steward’s role as educator and advocate, as well as concentrating on the grievance procedure. Participants will be provided with a manual and an information binder, designed to be utilized as a reference manual to assist them with a variety of workplace issues.
Who can attend: The course is open to all members in good standing who are, or wish to become, shop stewards, or are curious about whether the role of steward would suit them. Members who have taken a previous Shop Steward Level 1 course can also register.
Equipment: Participants will need a computer or tablet with a functioning camera and microphone. Please let us know if you do not have this equipment when filling out the registration form.
Register in two steps: Our latest set of Shop Steward classes filled up within a few hours, so don’t delay your registration.
- Click on the “Register here” button below, and fill in your information online via Eventbrite.
- Once this is done, submit your Union Time Off request to your manager as soon as you register for the course, and follow up with them every couple days until they confirm that Union Time Off is approved. For our Telus members: Use the link go/UTO when connected to the Telus intranet to submit your Union Time Off Request (not on company time). If the company UTO tool isn’t working (as has been the case recently) please email contact@usw1944.ca to let us know that you need UTO and this time only we will request it on your behalf once we receive your email.
A reminder that you can only sign up for one class, and you can only change it for another class with the approval of the Union.
