Candidate Biographies for the Bargaining Committee Election

Below are the nominees for the Appendix A or C clerical position on the upcoming Telus Bargaining Committee, each accompanied by a brief personal statement. Candidates are listed in alphabetical order.

Robin Navin

I have worked at Telus for nearly 19 years across home, mobility, and business services call centres, giving me firsthand knowledge of these roles. Over that time, I have witnessed the steady erosion of working conditions, job security, and respect on the job. Members are micro-managed to the second and treated as disposable. This is unacceptable.

I bring extensive union experience, having served as Unit Chair, Secretary, Councillor, Shop Steward, National Executive Board member, and currently as a National Trustee.

I have served on numerous committees and am a full member of the Health and Safety Policy Committee representing clerical workers. As a USW 1944 facilitator, I have trained and mentored shop stewards to stand up for our members.

I hold the company accountable. I have filed more grievances than any other shop steward and consistently fought for fair and equal treatment, with a strong resolution record that proves when I fight, we win. Telus does not intimidate me, and I am ready to fight at the bargaining table.

In the last round of bargaining, I helped organize practice pickets, engagement events, and national campaign strategy. Running for the bargaining committee is the next natural step. I have completed Level 3 of the USW International Leadership Development Program focused on bargaining, and I am ready to put that training to work. This round will be different. We need a strong, united committee that will fight for all members, everywhere.

Gitika Sharma

My name is Gitika Sharma, and I’m running for the Bargaining Committee because I truly believe in union power and worker solidarity. The rights we have today weren’t handed to us, instead, they were won because workers stood together. I’ve seen and experienced many of the issues our members face firsthand, and I know how much these challenges affect our daily work and our lives outside of it.

I want to be at the bargaining table representing real member concerns, standing firm, and pushing back against any attempt by the company to weaken or divide us. I believe in open, honest bargaining that puts members first.

I’ll listen, speak up, and fight for fair wages, strong benefits, job security, and respectful working conditions, because when we stay united, we’re stronger, and that’s how we win.

In Solidarity,

Gitika Sharma
