Hello members,
With employees across the globe, it comes as no surprise to us at Local 1944 that overseas workers at Telus are unionizing for collective bargaining agreements that will secure their workers’ rights.
Employees at Telus Digital (formerly Telus International) in Turkey have been dealing with low wages, psychologically exhausting working conditions, ever-increasing performance targets, a lack of job security and arbitrary dismissals.
In front of the Telus office in Izmir, Turkey, members of the Cagri-Is Union are currently on a picket line demanding better working conditions, recognition of their right to unionize, and reinstatement of colleagues that have been terminated due to their Union activities.
In reference to Telus’ operational and financial results of 2024, Darren Entwistle, President and CEO of Telus had this to say:
Through our […] unwavering commitment to cost efficiency [emphasis added], we delivered strong profitable growth to close out 2024 - momentum we intend to build upon in 2025.1
We are no strangers to the Company’s unwavering commitment to cost efficiency, and we know that you have felt the repercussions of it all, leaving us to wonder why Telus’ strategy and “confiden[ce] in driving strong sustainable growth,”2 does not include better and fair working conditions for their employees.
We are committed to being a united front as we demand that Telus respect workers’ rights globally, in Canada and overseas. Telus, you can run away from Canada, but you can’t run away from workers rights!
Take a stand to support Telus employees in Turkey through this letter writing campaign: https://bit.ly/telus-turkey
In Solidarity,
USW Local 1944
