Revised International Executive Board nomination submission deadline – Sept 7th

August 24, 2021 - Hello Members,

On July 19th, Local 1944 issued a bulletin stating that the USW International Executive Board nomination process had begun, and that the deadline for a member to submit the name of a candidate for nomination to any International Executive Board position was August 6th.

To adhere to the nomination process timeline of the International, the Local and International have now extended this deadline to Sept 7th. Members are now receiving Notices from the International stating this info, and elaborating upon the nomination process.

Positions to be nominated for are: International President, International Secretary-Treasurer, International Vice President (Administration), International Vice President (Human Affairs), Canadian National Director, International Vice President at Large, International Vice President and Directors of USW Districts 3, 5 and 6.

The International Union Elections Manual provides that no candidate may be voted upon in a Local’s nomination process unless the name of that candidate has been submitted in writing by a member of the Local Union to the Local’s Secretary-Treasurer in advance. The submission must be signed, and indicate the office for which the candidate’s name is being submitted. Once a name is submitted, the name cannot be withdrawn for candidacy as the Local’s nominee except by the candidate.

If you wish to submit the name of a candidate for consideration for the identified positions, it must be received in hard copy, by postal mail or dropped off, at the address indicated below, and by the date/time listed below:

TWU, USW National Local 1944
5261 Lane Street
Burnaby, B.C.
V5H 4A6

Deadline: 4:30 pm Pacific Time, Tuesday, September 7, 2021.

After the submissions have been received, the Local Union will use a remote electronic voting process to enable each member to vote to nominate the candidate(s) of their choice.

In Solidarity,

USW Local 1944
