Pension Dollars Going Towards Trades Education

Hello Members,

Some of you may not be aware that our BC-Telus members’ pension plan, the Telecommunications Workers Pension Plan, is a 49% owner of Concert Real Estate Corporation, a $2+ Billion development company that we helped create in the 1980’s. Concert has been instrumental in developing rental housing, and prioritizing the use of Union labour in its projects, throughout Canada.

We wanted to let you know of some great news regarding Concert that we are very proud of: The British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) announced recently that a new Trades and Technology Centre, to be developed at its Burnaby campus, will bear the name of Concert Properties in recognition of Concert’s long-standing commitment to supporting trades training at the post-secondary institution. For its part, Concert donated $7.5 million as the Lead Donor for the Centre, to help BCIT continue to thrive as the leading and largest provider of trades education in the province of British Columbia.

Congrats Concert, and thank you for elevating the Labour Movement, our retirees, and our communities.
