Hello Members,
On this day, the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, we are reminded of our collective responsibility to work toward ending all forms of racism. Despite progress over the decades, the battle against racial discrimination continues, particularly for Indigenous peoples, racialised, and religious minority communities across Canada. Daily, these groups confront the realities of racism and discrimination, underscoring the importance of our commitment to fighting injustice, systemic racism, and hate.
Racial discrimination manifests through unjust treatment based on race, ethnic origin, skin colour, language, or religion. It is both overt and systemic, embedded within the structures of our society, making it a pervasive challenge that affects many aspects of daily life. This discrimination can appear in workplaces, education, healthcare, and through law enforcement practices, severely impacting the lives and opportunities of affected communities.
Our Role in Combating Racism:
We encourage each of us to take proactive steps towards creating an inclusive and equitable environment for all. Here's how you can make a difference:
• Educate Ourselves and Others: Increase your understanding of racism, discrimination, and xenophobia.
• Let's speak Out: Challenge racism, discrimination, and xenophobia whenever you encounter it. Solidarity and active opposition can drive change.
• Support Affected Communities: Amplify the voices of Indigenous peoples and racialised and religious minority communities. Support organizations dedicated to racial equality.
• Promote Anti-Racism Policies: Advocate for anti-racism and equality in all spheres, including work, education, and policymaking.
We continue to stand firmly against all forms of racial discrimination, and we are committed to supporting initiatives that foster respect, equality, and safety for all. Let's unite in our efforts to eradicate racism and build a community where everyone is valued and has the opportunity to thrive.
Together, we can make a difference.
In Solidarity,
