Changes to your team of Local Union Representatives

March 22, 2021 - Several changes to the Local’s team of Local Union Representatives are taking effect this month.

As part of the United Steelworkers’ tradition of hiring Staff Representatives directly from amongst its members and Local Unions’ staff, your Local Union Representative for Quebec Hans-Woosly Balan has accepted a position as a District 5 USW Staff Representative. He will be working for District 5 reporting to Director Dominique Lemieux. His last day as a Local Union Representative for Local 1944 will be March 26th.

“I wish Brother Balan only the very best in all of his future endeavours,” said USW Local 1944 Acting President Donna Hokiro. “Our loss is most certainly District 5’s gain. Another Staff representative in the making from amongst our ranks, how phenomenal is that! Once more, congratulations Hans-Woosly.”

The Local is very happy to announce that Brother Alexander Livingston will be taking on Brother Balan’s duties on a temporary basis, as well as other union tasks.

Brother Livingston, a Unit Vice-Chair and Unit Counsellor from Unit 604, started at Telus in 2015 in Loyalty and Retention in Montreal, QC. He later transferred to Escalations, and ultimately became a Client Experience Advocate (CEA), a position where he offers support to frontline escalation agents and oversees regulatory complaints, privacy investigations for FFH, and the SOS program. He was also the privacy prime for EMT – which involved managing EMTs relationship with Privacy and the Data and Trust Office. He also served as a SME for privacy breaches for FFH. Brother Livingston is a fervent activist and a student of the USW Leadership Development Scholarship Program. He started in his new position today.

In Solidarity,
