Hello members,
Once again Telus has announced another round of VSP's, offering them to about 400 members nationally within the Telus Business Solutions and the Small-Medium Business 100 team—which handles accounts with fewer than 100 lines. As well, VSP's have been offered to approximately 80 members of SAMT and 80 members of SQET-5044, two of Telus’ Unions in Quebec.
At a time when customers of the Big 3 Telcos are already suffering from excessive call wait times, and a frustrating inability to get quick resolution on service and billing issues, Telus’ further job cuts are only going to make things worse for Canadian businesses.
- Members impacted will be notified by end-of-day February 25, 2025.
- Those receiving a package will have until March 11 to make their decision.
- Departures are set for mid-April.
Who’s Affected
- TBS organization (including call centers, wireless and wireline, and network assurance teams).
- Assure teams (non-call center network assurance roles).
- SMB100 LnR team.
- Positions in Burnaby, Edmonton, Calgary, Toronto, and Montreal.
For some, there may be redeployment opportunities, shifting from business to consumer roles in a "like-for-like" transfer. But that all depends on how many members take the package.
At a time when Canada is struggling to increase productivity to keep our economy afloat and compete on global markets, Telus once again is cutting service levels to Canadian Businesses, all while exporting jobs overseas. USW Local 1944 stands against this further disservice to Canadians and to our economy, and continues to call on the federal government to reward Telcos that help move our economy forward, while ceasing to subsidize Telcos like Telus that are busy selling out our economy.
Stay strong, stay informed, and stand together.
In Solidarity,
USW Local 1944
