Bargaining Update #8

Your bargaining committee hopes that you all had a safe and happy holiday season!

We have met with the employer committee twice so far this year and have finally seen their wage package. As you can imagine, it was insulting and contained nothing to address the financial impacts of the past couple of years. There was a token $500 retroactive payment and only 2 percent increases offered each year on what you currently make.

With the inflation rate currently sitting at 7.3% for Calgary, your Committee believes that this is an obscene offer. We have tabled a counteroffer that accounts for inflation, the delay since your last wage increase, the impacts of inflation, and a living wage. We believe that this company can and should be demonstrating that they value you, their employees, that generate the success that they are experiencing. It is time that you get a piece of the profit pie! #FairWagesNow

Telus professes to have organizational “values” about embracing change and innovating courageously and growing together with spirited teamwork. Yet when they table wages that are substantially below the Calgary Living Wage, they reveal their true colours.
