While your USW Local 1944 — Telus Bargaining Committee continues to meet to finalize our package, Telus was up to no good regarding in-lieu handling for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. However, thanks to the Union’s pressure, the company eventually decided to do, at least partially, what’s right.

Knowing where we come from as a Local Union will help us make the gains that we deserve. Bailey Garden, BC Labour Heritage Centre Project Manager, wrote a fantastic article on the TWU’s fight against BC Tel in 1980-81. Our predecessors had courage and a vision for a better future; let’s be inspired by their fights and victories and do our part to drive the movement forward.

In this issue, members pay tribute to USW Local Representative Joe Benn, who passed away on September 9.

We share some news from Unit 60’s Annual Golf Tournament. This year, two members from Local 1944 were awarded a 2021 USW Postsecondary Scholarship.
