October 22, 2018 - With the upcoming 2018 province-wide referendum, British Columbians have a chance to make their voices heard regarding electoral reform.
The different voting systems
The referendum will decide what voting system British Columbia uses for provincial elections, from among the following four:
- First Past the Post (FPTP) – this is British Columbia’s current voting system
- Dual Member Proportional
- Mixed Member Proportional
- Rural-Urban Proportional

- Official opponent: No BC Proportional Representation Society (www.nobcprorep.ca)

About the referendum
The vote is open to Canadian citizens, 18 or older as of November 30, 2018, and who have been residents of BC for at least six months. You can update your voter information by contacting Elections BC at: www.elections.bc.ca/ovr, or 1-800-661-8683.
Registered voters in BC will get a voting package with instructions on Electoral Reform in the mail between October 22 and November 2, 2018. You can ask for a voting package until Friday, November 23, 2018, at midnight.
Elections BC must receive your ballot by Friday, November 30, 2018, at 4:30 pm (Pacific Time).
