An Introduction to the Administrators - July 18, 2018

July 18, 2018 - As USW Local 1944 is now under administration, here is brief introduction to the administration team:

RON WYATT, Lead Administrator
Ron Wyatt is the District 6 Coordinator and works directly for the District 6 Director, Marty Warren.
Ron was born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario. He joined the Union in 1974 and became President of his Local in 1979. He was hired onto the Staff of the USW in 1986 and assigned to the Toronto Area Office. He has worked in the Guelph/Cambridge area and in 1995, he was assigned to the Hamilton/Niagara area. Ron has serviced Local Unions of all sizes and has a wealth of experience at negotiations and arbitration.
In 2004, he was named Area Coordinator for the Hamilton area. Ron was assigned to Special Projects in 2005. In 2014, he was appointed to the position he currently holds.
Ron also has extensive experience administrating large Local Unions.
 
MARK ROWLINSON, Co-Administrator
Mark Rowlinson is the Assistant to Steelworkers' Canadian National Director, Ken Neumann.
Mark was born and raised in Québec. He went to University in Montréal, and to Law School in Toronto. He is fluently bilingual. Mark joined the Steelworkers' legal department in 1994. From 1994 to 2011, Mark worked as Counsel to the Union in Toronto, where he represented the Union before courts and tribunals across Canada.
Since 2011, Mark has served as the Assistant to the USW National Director, a senior administrative and policy position within the Union.
From 2012 to 2015, Mark was directly involved in the negotiation and ratification of the USW-TWU merger agreement. Since 2015, he has been involved in various aspects of the implementation of the USW-TWU merger agreement.
 
SCOTT MCRITCHIE, Co-Administrator
Scott is currently a business agent for Local 2009, in Langley, British Columbia.
Scott was born in Vancouver and joined the Union in 1984. He became President of Local 2952 in 2002 and has been involved in Local Union mergers including with Local 1-3567 forming Local 2009, where he served as Vice-President until 2018.
 
JOHN PERQUIN, Assistant to the International Secretary-Treasurer
John was born in St. Thomas, Ontario and raised in London, ON. He is a licensed electrician having served his apprenticeship in Alberta and Ontario.
John joined the Steelworkers in 1981 while working in the mines in Elliot Lake, Ontario. In 1987, John was hired by the Steelworkers as a Staff Representative and was assigned to work in the Toronto office on Cecil Street.
In 1991, John was appointed as the District 6 Health and Safety Coordinator also responsible for Workers' Compensation matters. John was asked to relocate to the International Headquarters in Pittsburgh in 1996, to become the Assistant Department Head of the International's Health, Safety and Environment Department.
In 2001, John was appointed to his current position as Assistant to the International Secretary-Treasurer. In that capacity, John oversees the work of the Union with respect to the administration of its Constitution and By-Laws, the conduct of the election of the Union's leadership at all levels, as well as being involved in the planning of the Union's triennial Constitutional Conventions.
 
The Administrators will continue the review of the elections for USW Local 1944's Local Union Officers, to ensure process was followed in accordance with the provisions of our Union's Constitution.
