Conciliation Requested for Shaw Vancouver and Surrey Bargaining

April 23, 2018 - Yesterday the Company and the Union formally requested assistance from the Federal Minister of Labour by filing for conciliation in an effort to reach renewed collective agreements for our members at Shaw Vancouver and Shaw Surrey.

The union has been bargaining with Shaw since January for the agreements that expired March 23, 2018.

"Shaw says they want an organization that is agile and adaptable; we say this should not be at a cost to our members. We believe that it is possible to be a strong player in the competitive market and also provide a fair and respectful collective agreement that shows our members that the work they do is valued and protected," stated Lee Riggs, USW Local 1944 National President.

The union has put forward a bargaining package that is reasonable and respectful. We continue to be willing to bargain a fair and respectful collective agreement that addresses the needs of our members.

We will provide additional information about conciliation in the coming days.

In Solidarity,

USW Local 1944
